Your friendly tour guide will greet you at your Cairns accommodation and help you load your luggage into the four wheel drive.
Get to know your fellow travellers and expert Cape York tour guide during our scenic coastal journey from Cairns, north through Port Douglas and the 135 million year old Daintree and Cape Tribulation rainforests.
From here we experience the rugged and famous "Bloomfield Track" where we cross the Bloomfield River and stop for a hearty bite to eat at the historic Lion’s Den Pub. Then we see bouncing stones and learn about the spiritual legend of Black mountain on our way to Cooktown.
Cooktown is rich with Australian history and we spend the afternoon exploring its highlights and landmarks including Grassy Hill and the site where Captain James Cook landed the Endeavour in 1778.
Tonight we camp in Cooktown tonight and go out for dinner in town (own expense).
DAY 2 COOKTOWN - LAKEFIELD NATIONAL PARK (BLD)
Rise and shine early today to experience the magnificent sunrise and early morning view from Grassy Hill lookout before we board the four wheel drive and journey West via Battlecamp Road through mountain country and hear tales of successful and infamous pioneers from the gold rush days.
We pass through the township of Laura and stop in for a drink at the renowned Old Laura Homestead before visiting the new Laura Ranger Station on our way to our campsite in Lakefield National Park.
Lakefield National Park is renowned for bird watching and its abundance of top fishing spots full of Barramundi and Mangrove Jack.
Here you can go fishing or spot threatened species including the Red Goshawk, Lakeland Downs Mouse and Spectacled Hare-Wallaby. You can also watch more common Cape York wildlife including, Ibis, Bustards, Jabirus, Brolgas, wild pigs and crocodiles going about their daily routines.
This evening we set up camp on the Normanby River and enjoy the peace of a campfire and sleeping under the stars.
DAY 3 LAKEFIELD - MUSGRAVE STATION (BLD)
Today as we continue north, along the Peninsula Development Road from Lakefield National Park to Musgrave.
You’ll get a firsthand experience of the park’s plentiful billabongs, waterholes and creeks on our journey out of Lakefield National Park towards Musgrave station. You can often spot animals and wildlife going about their daily routine, so keep your camera handy.
Take time to look at and reflect upon Musgrave Station’s historical collection of memorabilia and old photos of the area, and be humbled in the memory of the amazing hurdles overcome by hard-working people from the bush.
Tonight we enjoy more camp oven cooking and another peaceful night under the stars.
DAY 4 MUSGRAVE - WEIPA (BLD)
Rise and shine for an early start on our journey south, across the Wenlock River towards Weipa, the largest town and mining hub of
Cape York.
Driving along the Peninsula Development Road we pass through the remote historic gold rush town of Coen and cross the mighty Archer River. Along the way we pass the little known RAAF base in Sherger. This base became less secret in September 2010 when the Australian Government announced it would be used to accommodate up to 300 male asylum seekers.
After a big day on the road we arrive in Cape York’s largest town and mining hub, Weipa.
There is some time for you to explore Weipa yourself in the afternoon before we enjoy some camp oven cooking and spend the night camping under the stars.
DAY 5 WEIPA - BRAMWELL STATION (BLD)
This morning is your last chance to see Weipa on the optional tour of Weipa’s township and bauxite mine. Learn about Weipa’s history, lifestyle and how the town is a driving force in the Cape York economy. Or you can just sleep in and relax around our campsite before we re-board the four wheel drive bound for Bramwell Cattle Station.
Wendy Bramwell, owner of Australia’s Northern most cattle station and the largest of its kind in Cape York, will often come and greet your group herself and share stories about Bramwell Station, their expansion into earth moving and tourism, as well as environmental and legislative issues that have changed the nature of station life in the Cape.
After this very special experience, we set up our camp and spend the night on Bramwell Station.
DAY 6 BRAMWELL STATION - TWIN FALLS (BLD)
Get set for some awesome four wheel drive action today! Our exciting journey to Twin Falls will take us along the Old Telegraph track, splashing through creeks and washouts and tackling steep inclines and ditches.
See spectacular Heathlands Reserve with its low scrub country and marvel at the giant and magnificently strong termite mounds. The work of tiny creatures, some termite mounds stand taller than humans and are always a talking point on tour.
From there we trade dust for water at Twin Falls.
We set up camp in naturally lush Wet Tropics rainforest surrounded by the peace and beauty of two crystal clear swimming holes, each with their own flowing waterfalls. Take a refreshing swim, go for a rainforest walk, spot some tropical birds or simply relax and enjoy the peace and awesome natural beauty surrounding you.
After you take your first swim in the refreshing and inviting crystal-clear swimming holes beneath either of Elliott River’s twin falls you’ll understand why this area is described as the jewel in Cape York’s crown.
DAY 7 TWIN FALLS - LOYALTY BEACH (BLD)
Enjoy one more swim before we wave goodbye to Twin Falls and buckle up for another day of rugged four wheel drive adventure on our way to Australia’s northern most mainland town, Seisia.
Look out for crocodiles sunning themselves on the banks while we take the old world cable ferry across Cape York’s largest river, the Jardine River.
A short drive from the ferry, we pass through the small township of Bamaga, a hub of Cape York Government and Indigenous agencies before we set up our picturesque beachfront camp overlooking Torres Strait at Loyalty Beach.
DAY 8 LOYALTY BEACH (BLD)
Adjust your body clock to island time and experience the rich Indigenous culture, history, fishing and pristine natural beauty of the Torres Straight and Cape York’s northern most communities.
Today’s activities are up to you. You can take a scenic flight over Cape York and the islands of the Torres Strait, jump aboard the inter island fast ferry and join a historic cultural tour of Thursday Island or take a step back in time on a WW2 tour of Horn Island.
(All these day tours are own expense).
Or if you’d prefer to just kick back and relax, you can stay at our Loyalty Beach campsite and enjoy a leisurely day on the beach.
DAY 9 LOYALTY BEACH - CAPE YORK (BLD)
Make sure your camera lens is clean and batteries are charged because today is the day we capture your signature Cape York photo on the absolute tip of Australia. Walk as a group to “The Tip” at the very end of Cape York Peninsula, celebrate together and grab that all important photo evidence that proves “I did it!”
Your expert guide will take you on a walking tour around the area and share historical stories and eco-facts before we return to our beachfront campsite at Loyalty Beach.
DAY 10 CAPE YORK - CAIRNS (B)
Wave goodbye to your expert Cape York tour guide as you set sail on the azure blue waters of the Torres Strait aboard the inter island ferry bound for Horn Island, via Thursday Island.
When you arrive at Horn Island enjoy a friendly chat with locals fishing on the jetty before you board the bus for the Horn Island airport where you will board your scenic flight over the Coral Sea and Great Barrier Reef to Cairns.
Our friendly staff will meet you at Cairns airport and return you safely to your Cairns accommodation.
