10 DAY CAPE YORK CAMPING SAFARI (Fly/Drive)

An exciting air and four wheel drive safari, ideal for an amazing time in Cape York. First the spectacular aerial overview of our "Last Frontier", and then an absorbing 4WD exploration of the vast peninsula wilderness from North to South, with a fitting contrasting finale as you traverse the verdant Daintree/Cape Tribulation Rainforest.

DAY 1 CAIRNS - CAPE YORK (LD)

After picking you up at your Cairns accommodation you will head for and early morning flight to Cape York. On arrival on you will be met by a representative from the Gateway Torres Strait Resort. Lunch included followed by a bus tour of the Island and Museum. Overnight accommodation is on Horn Island.

DAY 2 THURSDAY ISLAND - PUNSAND BAY (BD)

Ride the morning ferry to Thursday Island for a conducted bus tour of this historic Island. Mid afternoon by inter island ferry cruise via Prince Of Wales and Possession Islands to Punsand Bay Private Reserve,your base camp for the next 2 nights.

DAY 3 CAPE YORK - SOMERSET (BLD)

Stand at "The Tip", and back in the legends, folk lore, tall tales andtrue with a visit to Somerset (road conditions permitting). Savour the"once in a lifetime" treat, to stand on the very top of Australia,legendary Cape York itself. Retrace the footsteps of our early explorer/settlers, where every ruin and relic is steeped in romantic folk lore and historic fact.

DAY 4 CAPE YORK - TWIN FALLS (BLD)

Our exciting overland adventure starts today. Across the mighty Jardine River, through the wilderness of forests and heath to Twin Falls on the Elliot River and a cooling dip in the rapids and waterfalls beforesetting up camp in this unique spot. Basic camp facilities.

DAY 5 TELEGRAPH ROAD -WENLOCK RIVER (BLD)

An exciting day negotiating river crossings and bush tracks whileabsorbing the unfamiliar landscape of eucalyptus scrub, heathlands,plains and exotic zamia forests. Camp on the Wenlock River at Moreton Telegraph Station.

DAY 6 WEIPA (BLD)

Travel south to Batavia Downs Station then detour west to the Gulf of Carpentaria through huge cattle runs and Aboriginal tribal lands to the bauxite mining town of Weipa. An optional Weipa Mine Tour mid-afternoon (own cost). Overnight camp.

DAY 7 ARCHER RIVER - PORT STEWART (BLD)

Across rolling Piccaninny Plains before a pause at the Archer River, visit historic Coen before heading to Port Stewart, a former sea port. We virtually travel the entire length of Stewart River. We explore Port Stewart, traditional homelands of the Lama Lama Aboriginal people. Overnight Yintjingga Campground with facilities.

DAY 8 MUSGRAVE - LAKEFIELD NATIONAL PARK (BLD)

Learn about the Lama Lama Rangers. We venture west the south to arrive at Musgrave, the last remaining Telegraph Station in Cape York. We then travel east towards the Coral Sea to arrive at the massive wildlife haven, Lakefield National Park. 

DAY 9 COOKTOWN (BD)

Past pioneer homesteads, with a pause for photos at Old Laura Homestead, along trackers first blazed by gold crazed fortune hunters,over the stark Battlecamp Range to reach Cooktown. A day of interest and enjoyment as we visit Cooks landing place, Grassy Hill Lookout,the century old museum, or shop for souvenirs in original colonial era shops. Overnight Camp.

DAY 10 DAINTREE NATIONAL PARK - CAIRNS (BL)

Over the jungle shrouded heights of the Bloomfield Track to enter the majestic expanse of the World Heritage Rainforest. Jungle green heights descend to the very edge of the Great Barrier Reef with views of deserted beaches and fringing coral. Across the Daintree River through Cape Tribulation and via the scenic beaches with your tour ending with a drop off at your Cairns accommodation.
