DAY 1 CAIRNS - COOKTOWN (LD)
After an early morning pick up from your Cairns accommodation your adventure begins.
Traveling north along the scenic Captain Cook Highway, through the World
Heritage listed Daintree Rainforest and Cape Tribulation, where the rainforest
meets the reef. Then making our way along the jungle shrouded Bloomfield
Track, stopping off at the unique Lion's Den Hotel, and the mysterious Black
Mountain, arriving at the old gold port of Cooktown. Visit Captain Cooks
Landing, and the Grassy Hill Lookout. Dining out tonight at the River of
Gold Motel, a perfect way to spend your first night together. Accommodation
at Cooktown in a budget motel with share facilities.
DAY 2 COOKTOWN - LAKEFIELD - MUSGRAVE (BLD)
Heading west into the outback, we travel over the legendary Battle Camp
Range to the Old Laura Homestead and Lakefield National Park. An amalgamation
of 3 huge cattle stations, now a haven for the many birds and animals native
to this area. Lagoons, billabongs, and wide river lakes are home to both
fresh and saltwater crocodiles. The afternoon finds us arriving at our permanent
pre-erected campsite, the old Musgrave Telegraph Station. Tonight, enjoy
a nice campfire dinner.
DAY 3 MUSGRAVE - COEN - WEIPA (BLD)
After a leisurely morning, we continue north stopping off at the historic
frontier gold town of Coen and the picturesque Archer River, before making
our way to the bauxite-mining town of Weipa. Our permanent pre-erected campsite
is located close to the beach, to enjoy spectacular sunsets over the Gulf
of Carpentaria.
DAY 4 WEIPA - WENLOCK RIVER - BRAMWELL STATION (BD)
This morning you may wish to take an informative tour of the Weipa mining
operation (own expense) or just relax by the pool. After lunch, we head
for our overnight stay at a true blue Aussie cattle station, Bramwell Station, our permanent campsite.
DAY 5 BRAMWELL STATION - FRUIT BAT FALLS - CAPE YORK (BLD)
After an early start, we head north traveling along part of the Old Telegraph
Track to arrive at Fruit Bat Falls for lunch. Relax, swim, and enjoy this unique
area with its enchanting waterfalls and rock pools. Then northwards across
the Jardine River, to arrive at Cape York! and your permanent pre-erected
base camp at Seisia. Seisia is ideally located for our next few days, being
in walking distance from the Seisia Wharf, the departure point for the ferry
to Thursday Island and a famous fishing spot.
DAY 6 CAPE YORK - SOMERSET (BLD)
An unforgettable day! Stand at the very top of mainland Australia and celebrate
with photographs. We visit Somerset, once the home of the
legendary Jardine family and lunch on palm fringed Anchorage Beach which
overlooks the Albany Passage. A walk on the beach completes your day before
returning to camp.
DAY 7 CAPE YORK - THURSDAY ISLAND - CAIRNS (B)
An early morning departure as we cruise through island studded straits to
explore our northern community, Thursday Island. Here you will be taken
on a informative guided bus tour of the island and its picturesque Harbour,
once home to the romantic pearl lugger fleet. Then board your plane at Horn
Island for a scenic flight back to Cairns. After arriving back in Cairns late in the afternoon you will be dropped back to your Cairns accommodation.
OPTIONAL EXTRA 8th DAY GIVING YOU TIME TO VISIT HORN ISLAND FOR $245 per person
Horn Island is famous for its strategic importance during the Second World War and is part of Australias history. If you are interested in the significance Horn Island played during the war then we suggest you consider this extra day as you will be taken on a one hour bus tour of the island and can have unlimited access to the Horn Island WWII Museum on Horn Island. The guided bus tour takes you to the old air strip, gun turrets, ammunition storage areas and hidden plane parking areas that were used by the troops during WWII. The Horn Island Museum has a collection of WWII information plus the local history of the area including its wonderful Pearling days. Please note you will need to pay for your own transport from the Cairns airport back to your accommodation if you take the extra 8th day. A taxi will cost approximately $25 from the Cairns airport to most of Cairns accommodation property's.
