DAY 1 CAIRNS - COOKTOWN (LD)

After an early morning pick up at your Cairns accommodation or Caravan Park, the 4wd will head North and travel via the beautiful coastal road until we cross the Daintree River and enter the majestic expanse of the World Heritage listed Daintree/Cape Tribulation Rainforest. Over the jungle shrouded slopes of the controversial Bloomfield track to Cooktown. A chance to shop for souvenirs in original colonial era shops.

DAY 2 COOKTOWN - LAKEFIELD NATIONAL PARK (BD)

Take time in Cooktown this morning for sightseeing and viewing significant landmarks and sites so important to all Australians. Midday the 4 wheel drive will start to head North via the rugged Battlecamp Range traveling through pioneer cattle stations and the old coach road to arrive at the massive wildlife haven of Lakefield National Park.

DAY 3 MUSGRAVE - COEN - ARCHER RIVER (BLD)

Take a step back to with historic interludes as we visit Musgrave, the last remaining Telegraph Station on Cape York and the once vibrant gold rush town of Coen, before reaching our overnight stop at the Archer River.

DAY 4 IRON RANGE NATIONAL PARK (BLD)

Cross the Wenlock and Pascoe Rivers before entering Iron Range National Park via Tozers Gap. The park features the largest area of tropical lowland rainforest remaining in Australia. Rare fauna and flora include cuscus, palm cockatoos, eclectus parrots, green pythons, palms and orchids. There is also impressive coastal and mountain range scenery. Overnight camp in Iron Range for 2 nights.

DAY 5 PORTLAND ROADS - CHILLI BEACH - WW2 SITES - IRON RANGE NATIONAL PARK (BLD)

An exciting day visiting significant historical sites and breathtaking coastal scenery. Portland Roads, once a vital sea port for miners and the wartime airfields, now affords the locals a relaxed lifestyle in an idyllic tropical setting. War time gun emplacements are silent sentinels around the headland, some are homes to the locals at the 'Roads. Chili Beach is wide and long and fringed with palms. A truly magical spot overlooking Restoration Island, Blighs first landing point in 1792. We explore and learn about the gold workings of the 1930's and the area around the airfield at Iron Range National Park where there were major military installations. Anti-aircraft batteries, air raid shelters, the bakery complex and hospital site are a few to visit. Tonight you will camp in the Iron Range National Park.

DAY 6 WENLOCK GOLD FIELDS - WEIPA (BLD)

Travel West to visit the old Batavia (Wenlock) Gold Fields, an abandoned mining town. Then travel North by West across Piccaninny Plains and boundless savannah to Weipa, on the Gulf of Carpentaria. A veritable "Oasis in the wilderness" and providing further contrast to your experience of this last frontier.

DAY 7 WENLOCK RIVER - MORETON TELEGRAPH STATION (BD)

In the cool of the early morning, an optional Weipa Mine Tour (own cost, as is lunch). With the Gulf of Carpentaria behind us, we pass through huge cattle runs to arrive at the fast flowing Wenlock River. Overnight camp at Old Moreton Telegraph Station.

DAY 8 TELEGRAPH ROAD - TWIN FALLS (BLD)

A really challenging route today as we ford fast flowing streams and traverse rugged 4WD tracks to overnight at the idyllic Twin Falls.

DAY 9 JARDINE RIVER - PUNSAND BAY (BLD)

Across the free flowing Jardine River by cable ferry, a brief refueling stop at Bamaga and via Lockerbie to our base camp at Punsand Bay Safari Fishing Lodge and Campground for next two nights.

DAY 10 THURSDAY ISLAND (BD)

Today's highlight is a cruise through the island dotted Straights to explore legendary Thursday Island. A conducted bus tour is available (own cost, as is lunch) and is most enjoyable and informative. Afternoon return to our base camp.

DAY 11 CAPE YORK - SOMERSET (BLD)

An unforgettable day of achievement and interest. Stand at the very "Tip" of our continent, where oceans meet and where very few travelers visit. A short drive will see you at Somerset, the ruins of the failed "Singapore of the Pacific" (road conditions permitting). Pristine beaches, rocky headlands, cool shaded forest walks, and twilight strolls to watch a spectacular Torres Strait sunset.

DAY 12 CARGO BOAT to CAIRNS (BLD)

"Barge Day" The focus of all attention today is Seisia wharf, where the cargo ships from Cairns disgorge their cargo of fuel, building materials, indeed everything needed by the island and local communities. At 80 meters and over 3000 tonnes the M.V. Trinity Bay is the largest cargo ship servicing the Torres Strait communities.

DAY 13 CARGO BOAT to CAIRNS (BLD)

Total relaxation as you enjoy the company of the crew and new ship board companions.

DAY 14 CARGO BOAT to CAIRNS (B)

On arrival at Trinity Wharf (anytime between 9.00am and 5.00pm depending on cargo logistics) your tour concludes with a drop off at your Cairns accommodation.
